NORMA MIEDEMA has been called the Forgotten rescuer from the dramatic Marrum Horse Rescue in 2006. She was the woman who alerted the local authorities about the plight of the stranded horses. She alone valiantly tried to rescue several horses including when she waded neck-deep into the water to try to save a horse caught in barbed wire. It died in her arms. Publicity followed the other brave riders who were given a high profile - Norma was ignored, pushed to one side, even though her idea of riding out to rescue the herd was originally dismissed on DAY ONE!
This poem by New Zealander Anton leMain puts into a few words with pictures an idea of what happened. If you want more - read Norma's book!
